The annual poker festival, poker in the Park, is scheduled for 13th and 14th August 2009. This will be the third time this exiting event takes place. The event will take place in Leicester Square, London.

This is a great event for anyone with an interest in poker, whether they are a complete novice, an experienced player or a professional. There are lectures suitable for every level. Last year a series of lectures were given by Liv Boeree. Liv is a glamorous top class poker player who won the European Ladies Championship in 2008. Her lectures were on ‘Pre-flop play: hand selection and playing position’ and ‘The beginner’s guide to No Limit Hold’em’. Tony Holden, the writer and poker player gave readings from his book ‘Bigger Deal’, Ian Frazer a professional poker player with winnings over £500,000 talked about how to dominate short-handed games, Dave Ulliott: (aka ‘Devilfish’) a World Series winner with a colourful history lectured on ‘Table Image: Dominate the table using table talk to bully players’, an extremely interesting subject. Paul Jackson the top online poker player told the audience about ‘Tells: Reading opponents through body language and other tales’, Nik Persaud, another online player gave a lecture titles ‘Online Poker: A hand made simple’ and Neil Channing, a player from Reading UK,compared cash games with tournament poker. Omaha Hold’em was explained by Marc Goodwin, one of our top players and Tom Sambrook, the guy who was an advisor for Casino Royale (2006) talked about professional poker.

Of course, it was not all talk and lectures. There was a lot of exiting poker being played including ‘The Sky Poker Cup’, The England Poker League Cup, ‘Bluff Europe Championship’ and a host of other tournaments. There was a tournament run every hour on a first come first seated basis.

The full schedule for this years forthcoming event has not yet been finalised but if it is anything like last years, which it is certain to be, and you love poker, then it should be a date in your diary.
